The regular Panchakkajeya is made of a mixture of coconut, jaggery, roasted Moong Dal/ Split Green Gram and Chana Dal/Split Bengal Gram. The powdered one is an instant one and is equally tasty as it makes use of Copra or dry coconut. Usually made during the month of Shravan as an offering to the Sun God and holy Tulsi (Basil) it is also made during Ganesh Chaturthi. The convenience of parceling it to members of the family who could not participate in the rituals or festival cannot be denied .
- 200 gms roasted split Bengal Gram /Hurakadle/Daalia
- 100 gms Copra/Dry Coconut
- 2 tsps Cardamom powder
- 2 heaped tbsps black Sesame seeds.
- 11 tsps sugar
Dry roast the Split Bengal Gram till it turns to a deep golden yellow. Alternatively you can microwave it for a minute which is more convenient. Allow it to cool thoroughly. Chop the dry coconut and powder it along with sugar. Add the roasted Split Bengal Gram and powder everything together. Dry roast the Black Sesame seeds till they splutter and tip it into the powdered Split Bengal Gram, Dry coconut and sugar mixture. Add the Cardamom powder and mix thoroughly. Store in an air tight container.
